This site is dedicated to documenting the progress of my multi-media project for final year at university.
I’ve chosen to investigate a unique scheme that aims to break the cycle of homelessness.
The scheme is a luxurious private members club in London which anyone that’s homeless or facing social exclusion can apply to work in.
If accepted they work and train for 12 weeks in the House of St Barnabas. When they graduate they earn a City and Guilds qualification in either hospitality or business and administration.
Which, ultimately, gets them off the streets.
In addition to this, I will also be investigating what else is being done to tackle the issue by speaking to experts from other charities.
...but, why am I doing this?
According to Crisis.org the number of people sleeping rough on any one night across England has doubled since 2010 and is continuing to increase.
The House of St Barnanas is demolishing stereotypes. By giving homeless people the chance to work in a luxury establishment it’s breaking down the barriers between the social classes.
